About us
My name is Aaron M Townsend, and I am the creator and administrator for the Antique Shopping Guide. I grew up in a small city called Midland, here in Michigan. Ever since I can remember, my grandmother owned and ran an antique shop in a small building next to her home. I played there nearly every day during the summers, exploring all of the wonderful items from times past, marveling at the antique toys and treasures. I guess you could say I have been a fan of antiques ever since.
Frustration
Now that I am older, and hopefully a bit wiser, I have come to look at antiques in a whole new light. My wife, Karen, and I go antique hunting on a regular basis, hitting all of our local shops. When we travel, we also like to look for any bargins we might be able to find. It was very frustrating having to search through several different websites just to find the information on shops that we were looking for. I would spend hours on end searching the search engines, browsing pages that were full of useless junk, and still I wouldn't find everything I needed to plan our trip.
An idea!
After my initial frustration, I came up with an idea. Why not make a website where people can search for antique shops all over the country in one place? That small idea turned into an ongoing project that has lasted over a year and half now. From the initial design project, to updating, correspondance and more, the Antique Shopping Guide has become much more than a hobby. We have gone from an initial 10,000 or so antique listings to over 25,000 in a matter of months, and we're still growing!
